In a Nutshell

Stray dog and jackal attacks in Gaibandha leave 45 injured and six dead, including a child, in six months.

People in Gaibandha are living in fear of stray dogs. In 2026, apart from isolated incidents, dogs and jackals have carried out at least four major attacks. Children, students and parents are particularly concerned about attacks by stray dogs.

From April to September 2026, at least 45 people, including women and children, were attacked by just three dogs and one jackal over a six-month period. Among them, six people, including a child, died.

Local residents and concerned citizens allege that despite a series of untoward incidents in Gaibandha, the authorities and relevant agencies have failed to take effective action. Although temporary measures are taken following incidents, there appears to be no planned or sustained initiative. As a result, attacks by dogs and other such animals continue to increase, with the death toll also rising.
